About Kippure Education Centre

Kippure Estate Education Centre is located in the Dublin-Wicklow Mountains between Manor Kilbride and the Sally Gap, and between the River Liffey and the Dublin-Wicklow border. Our location is only 30 minutes from the M50 junction 11 with the N81, and within easy reach of Dublin City. Kippure Estate borders the Wicklow Mountains National Park on two sides and Coillte on another. One end of the estate has been managed for over two centuries, while there are wild open spaces in the other half, giving the best of both worlds.

Environmental Field Study

Kippure Estate is one of Ireland’s foremost providers of environmental, outdoor education and eco-adventure days for schools. Our Education Department has been providing geographical investigations for Geography students and ecological surveying for Biology students since 2005. It is also a great location for school tours and forest school camps. Our Education Centre is a superb venue for other activities that require a conference space with plenty of parking.

Field Trips

Schools from the four provinces attend educational trips at Kippure Estate. All our field studies are carried out on-site and have been carefully designed to facilitate the relevant Department of Education curricula. A team of highly experienced instructors with a range of environmental qualifications deliver our field trips. As well as being thoroughly enjoyable, they instil a range a vital skills such as surveying, group work, data collection, analysis and report writing.

    Field Study & Bushcraft

    (Full day & half day packages available)

    Geographical Investigation 

    We provide all the necessary worksheets and field equipment. We also have a selection of raingear, Wellington boots & waders.
    This course has been designed to facilitate the Geographical Investigation, a compulsory element of the geography syllabus worth 20% of the overall mark. This study is carried out on either the river Liffey or one of its tributaries, the Athdown Brook. They include a study of landforms.

      Adventure Activities 

      (Full day €45 per student)

      Kippure Education Centre is offering a range of scenic hikes for students.

      Ecology

      Kippure Estate Education Centre facilitate the ecology element of the Biology syllabus. This study includes some of the following activities:
      • Using different surveying techniques to carry out a vegetation, invertebrate & vertebrate field study
      • Investigating the different factors affecting the ecosystem
      • Mapping the study area
      • Using identification guides to encourage self-guided learning
      • Looking at Edaphic factors
      • Identifying a Food Web
      • Discussion of the need for Conservation
      • A discussion on future issues
